Women In Real Estate: Meet Brea Rolton

Introducing Brea Rolton, Marketing and Sales Coordinator at Belle Property Mona Vale. New to the industry, she believes the most important thing to remember is you're creating relationships with people, so you need to be supportive and have good communication skills. Scroll to read more of her insights...

We chatted with Brea about working in real estate and asked her what other advice she had for other women wanting to get into the industry...

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN REAL ESTATE?

I have been in Real Estate for six months now!

WHERE DID YOU START?

I was originally working as a Retail Store Manager in Wellington before moving over to the Northern Beaches to start my career as a Marketing and Sales Coordinator, for Belle Property Mona Vale.

IS IT YOUR DREAM JOB?

YES! I have always had a strong interest in the industry and was hoping to be in role that involved marketing, as I studied this in New Zealand.  It has been awesome being able to gain experience in Real Estate and be a part of the sales journey. I love my role and the people I work with at Belle Property! Adrian Hybner and David Bowles have been amazing mentors!

BEST CAREER EXPERIENCE?

Being a part of people’s sale journey is honestly so surreal. It’s an amazing experience helping a vendor move forward in their next venture and seeing the pure excitement from someone purchasing a new property! It’s so lovely being able to create meaningful connections with clients!

WORST CAREER EXPERIENCE?

Fortunately, I’ve not experienced many lows in my role, but I am aware that like any industry you’re in, it can come with its challenges! When challenges do present themselves, it can create resilience and the chance for growth.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT REAL ESTATE DURING YOUR CAREER?

Task bar on outlook is your best friend. You need to stay organised and be prepared to put in the work. I think the most important thing to remember is you're creating relationships with people, so you need to be supportive and have good communications skills.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT YOURSELF DURING YOUR CAREER?

I have learnt that you need to have a good work-life balance and you need to look after yourself mentally and physically. I think if you don’t have a good healthy balance in your life you may start to lack motivation. I have learnt that I want to be the best version of myself, and I needed to be more confident in my abilities.

HOW HAVE WOMEN’S ROLES IN REAL ESTATE CHANGED SINCE YOU FIRST STARTED?

Before starting my career, I thought it was a male dominated industry. It’s been great to see that more women are putting themselves out there and into roles in Real Estate, and they are thriving in this space.

IT’S BEEN A CHALLENGING YEAR, ARE THERE ANY REAL ESTATE TIPS YOU COULD SHARE?

The market is changing, so it’s important to stay confident in your abilities and do what you do best. This industry is about relationship building, and you shouldn’t hesitate to stay in contact with past clients to continue having relationships that go beyond the sale.

BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE BEEN GIVEN?

You win or you learn! Any challenge you’re faced with should be seen as a lesson and an opportunity to adapt and overcome. It’s also important to remember to be the energy you want to attract! If you think positively and give off good vibes, you’ll receive this back!

ANY REGRETS REGARDING YOUR CAREER?

No regrets! I went out of my comfort zone to move to a new country and start a new career and I can only say positive things about it.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHER WOMEN WANTING TO START A CAREER IN REAL ESTATE?

Take positive risks, believe in yourself, and stay confident! You can do anything you set your mind to and you should always work towards your goals. Be prepared to work hard and always be open to learn more. Surround yourself with good people and stay true to yourself.

DO YOU HAVE ANY FASHION & BEAUTY TIPS THAT YOU’VE LEARNT WHILE ON THE JOB?

I think presentation is important, especially in a professional environment, so dress to impress but do it within your budget. Don’t forget to invest in some comfortable heels.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE?

Don’t be afraid to start a new career. If you’re seeing this, maybe it’s your sign to get out of your comfort zone and try something you’ve always wanted to do. As they say, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take!
