We had a chat with Chris and she shared her advice for other women wanting a career in real estate...

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN REAL ESTATE?

Three years. My background is accounting, auditing, operations, sales and real estate auditing – all transferable skills that lead me to real estate. An accountant with a personality in real estate, is a weapon.

WHERE DID YOU START?

The Agency Real Estate – Eastern Suburbs.

IS IT YOUR DREAM JOB?

Yes – with my auditors eye (don’t judge)! I can go through a property and list what needs to be improved (it's hard for me to hold back) – but I do it because I care and want to get the best result for my client. You do it once – you do it properly.

BEST CAREER EXPERIENCE?

Uncovering peoples stories about their lives through the sale of their home and communicating that to the buyers. It's an emotional experience and I wear my heart on my sleeve. If I can feel it, I can transfer that authentically to my buyers. I love a property before and after shot AND the sold sticker is my favourite bit!

WORST CAREER EXPERIENCE?

People who don’t have the same values, energy and positive mindset.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT REAL ESTATE DURING YOUR CAREER?

Trust and making no apology for working for your client to get the best result. And being able to put my head on the pillow of a nighttime knowing I’ve done everything possible to achieve that result for them.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT YOURSELF DURING YOUR CAREER?

Put yourself first. As a wife and mother of four, I always give to everyone else BEFORE myself. A swim every morning is my treat to ME before I start the day – so I can be the best version to myself and serve others.

HOW HAVE WOMEN’S ROLES IN REAL ESTATE CHANGED SINCE YOU FIRST STARTED?

I think its about the best person for the job regardless of the gender, just be yourself and make no apology for being a straight shooter to get your clients needs met. I'm about surrounding myself with the same mindset – regardless of gender. Uplift each other. Just own it.

IT’S BEEN A CHALLENGING YEAR, ARE THERE ANY REAL ESTATE TIPS YOU COULD SHARE?

Life is 10 % the situation and 90% of how you react to it. It’s a RESET for everyone. Be grateful for what you have, not what you don’t. Do this everyday and you will be the best version of yourself.
