HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN REAL ESTATE?

21 years

WHERE DID YOU START?

I started in sales in the motor industry, which was my family business. I loved driving nice cars but didn’t enjoy selling them, so I moved into real estate at 20 years old — and I’ve never looked back.

IS IT YOUR DREAM JOB?

Yes, I love what I do. Real estate is a people business, and no two days are the same. Plus, who doesn’t love seeing inside beautiful homes?

BEST CAREER EXPERIENCE?

Recently, I was invited to speak on stage to other real estate agents about my career, what I do differently, and what it’s like to be a woman in business. It was incredibly humbling when a younger female agent told me she looks up to me and sees me as a role model. I’ll admit, I got a little teary.

WORST CAREER EXPERIENCE?

There are too many to count — from picking up dead rats in a backyard before an open house, to walking in on a client having an affair, to dealing with greedy vendors who constantly shift the goalposts. That’s the thing about real estate: just when you think you’ve seen it all, something else surprises you.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT REAL ESTATE DURING YOUR CAREER?

That we’re all human. Real estate is wrapped up in life’s highs and lows — money pressures, family disagreements, births, deaths, marriages and divorces. Being kind and empathetic is essential, because you never know what someone is going through.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT YOURSELF DURING YOUR CAREER?

That I’m tougher than I thought, and you can have it all — but like anything worthwhile, it comes with sacrifices.

HOW HAVE WOMEN’S ROLES IN REAL ESTATE CHANGED SINCE YOU FIRST STARTED?

When I began, there were only a handful of women in the industry. Today, women are making their mark in all areas of real estate and achieving incredible things.

IT’S BEEN A CHALLENGING YEAR, ARE THERE ANY REAL ESTATE TIPS YOU COULD SHARE?

Don’t try to “pick” the market. Too many buyers miss opportunities waiting for the perfect time, only to find prices have already risen. Time costs money — never forget that.

BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE BEEN GIVEN?

Back yourself. No one else will as much as you do.

ANY REGRETS REGARDING YOUR CAREER?

None. I don’t believe in regrets — everything is a lesson, never a loss.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHER WOMEN WANTING TO START A CAREER IN REAL ESTATE?

Find your rhythm, partner with someone in the office, build your profile and always back yourself. It’s stressful at times, but diamonds are made under pressure.

DO YOU HAVE ANY FASHION & BEAUTY TIPS THAT YOU’VE LEARNT WHILE ON THE JOB?

Wear clothes and shoes that make you feel good and are comfortable. Confidence comes from feeling at ease. There’s nothing worse than struggling in impractical heels or fussy outfits. Keep make-up simple and relatable — no need for a full glam look.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE?

Your success is only as strong as your mindset.
